Poetry is a form of literature using language to portray the artistic qualities of words — the beauty of words — to evoke meanings or emotions outside the dictionary definitions of those words. There are more than four dozen types of poetry which follow a defined set of rules. Some of these poetry forms specify the number of lines, words, syllables, or subject matter the poem must contain. Free verse, in contrast, does not follow regular patterns of rhyme or meter, but the words still carry artistic expression.

Micropoetry is not a specific type of poetry. It’s an umbrella term for short poems, the types of poems I prefer writing. I frequently illustrate my poems with one of my photographs. I find that the image one sees enhances the meaning of the words one reads.
